Recording tips

How to record so the result is good

The quality of the transcript follows the quality of the recording. A few simple habits go a long way.

On a phone, hold it close to your mouth. On a laptop, a basic headset with a microphone works far better than the built-in one.

Turn off background music, the TV, and the fan if you can. An echoey empty room is also tricky — somewhere with curtains or a rug records better.

If several people are talking, ask everyone to take turns instead of speaking over each other. We'll label who said what much more reliably.

If the conversation ran for hours, sometimes it's easier to split it into a few shorter files — easier to listen back, easier to edit.

Everyday audio from your phone or computer — voice memos, voice messages, podcasts. Most files just work.

Video files are fine too — we pull the sound out of them. Common things like MP3, M4A, WAV, or MP4 usually don't cause any trouble.

The allowed file size and types are shown on the upload page itself. If something's wrong, we'll show you a friendly message that explains it.

Sometimes it just helps to wait a moment and try again. If it still doesn't work — drop us a line in support and we'll help.
